    The co-founder of Chevrolet automotive — William C. Durant — swears that he was in a Persian hotel when the idea for the Chevy logo struck him. He took a piece of the wallpaper as a souvenir and suggested to his colleagues that this was the perfect design for the Chevy logo. Some people don’t agree, and people who contest this story are from within the Durant family.
  • Did the idea come from Margery Durant?
    Durant’s daughter Margery wrote a book in 1929 called, “My Father.” She claims that he came up with the design himself, with no external stimulus, and it was at the dinner table that he first came up with the Chevy logo that new Chevy dealers use today. Specifically, she says, “I think it was between the soup and the fried chicken one night that he sketched out the design that is used on the Chevrolet car to this day.” His daughter seems like she knows what she’s talking about, so

    Chevrolet Pro Management Magazine, in 1986, published an interview with Durant’s widow, Catherine. She says that Durant was reading a newspaper when he exclaimed, “I think this would be a very good emblem for the Chevrolet.” It’s up to interpretation whether this is true or not, but she claims that this is the first time Durant mentioned something relating to the Chevy logo we know today.
